CENTRAL LIBRARY

Government .Vidarbha Institute of Science & Humanities is well known Institute in Vidarbha region is situated in Amravati is known in the neighborhood for its results, and it is understood that the result of any college/institute is based on its teaching and learning resources.

Our library has a separate building from 1981. Total area of this building is 24,700sq.f. Now a day’s library extension building 6,000 Sq.ft. which follows the five fundamental laws of 1) Books are for use 2) Every reader his/her book 3) Every book its reader 4) Save the time of the reader 5) Library is a growing organism, plays a pivotal role in the moral and intellectual growth of the students.

For easy access it is situated in the separate building, and is open on all working days between 7.30 hrs and 5.45 hrs. To aid smooth functioning it has an advisory committee headed by the Director, which deals with all library related matters. Library rules for students and staff are updated as and when required; Administrative calendar is displayed on the notice board. A book exhibition is arranged to make the users aware of our collection. Book bank scheme for backward class students is available in chemistry department.

The books are arranged according to the scientific classification system called ‘Dewey Decimal Classification’ system and indexing is done according to AACR – II (Anglo American Cataloguing Rules) which is a standard format accepted world wide. List of files and registers is maintained and updated. Library does its stock verification at the end of every academic year for departmental libraries and every five year for central library.

Duties are assigned to other library staff according to need. The librarian is given an opportunity to update himself by way of attending seminar and workshops and professional education. We are also connected to other college libraries local, National & International under the Inter library Loan facility through DELNET (Developing Library network – New Delhi) and NLIST ( National Library Information services infrastructure for Scholarly Content) An initiative of Ministry of Human Resource Development under National mission on Education through ICT. Ahmadabad.

The library is in process of computerized and bar coding of books. We have purchased “SOUL2.0” (Software of University Library) developed by the INFLIBNET Centre – Ahmadabad an autonomous body of the UGC.

The fifth law of library science namely, Library is a growing organism is also one of the goals of our library- today we have more than 135441 books and subscribe 112 Periodicals and 28605450 union catalogue of books,38184 records of union list of journals, Articles database, CD ROMs, Sound recording, Video Recordings and ILL facility run by DELNET.

Working Hours

1. The library works on all working days except Sundays and public holidays, between 7.30 am hrs and 6.00pm (Total 11hrs)
2. During Exam period at 1st Feb. to 15 May, it remains open from. 07.00 hrs to 09.00hrs.
