Historically significant place Amravati has been bestowed with natural beauty. The
soil of this land has been consecrated by the work of venerated sant Gadge Baba
and Sant Tukadoji Maharaj. On such land the Government Vidarbha Institute of Science
and Humanities was established in 1923 and it opened the door to education for the
people of Vidarbha. Since then it has been a premier education hub. The magnificent
structure in gothic architectural beauty on the vast campus of 168 acres was completed
and inaugurated on July 14th ,1917 at the hands of Sir-Franklin Sly. It was Christened
King Edward College
In the beginning there were only 30 students and l6 lecturers. Today the institution
has grown into a huge tree. The institution has been an epitome of pride and success.
It is a proud possession of the Vidarbha. The Government of Maharashtra in 2001
elevated this college to the status of an institution with present name Government
Vidarbha Institute of Science and Humanities. The institution has contributed to
a great extent to enhance the quality of education. It has been constantly imparting
quality education to the students.
Today the institution functions with more than 100 teaching faculties and 22 graduates,
19 post graduates with research facility in 21 subjects. The institution has very
rich library with more than 1.5 lakh books. The institution has symbolic existence
of an ancient Gurukul with all the amenities like two hostels for boys and two
hostels for girls, post office , Gymkhana and auditorium which can accommodate more
than one thousand people.
