Welcome to the Department of Urdu

From the very beginning of this institute, Persian subject was available for Urdu students here. At that time Syed Agha Haider Hassan Abidi was the Head of Persian Department. Due to his love and sincerity and charming style of teaching, some Marathi language students also chose Persian language for the purpose of learning. Abidi Sahib had special ceremonies with the then Principal Tostwin, the reason being that Abidi Sahib himself was a supporter of strict discipline.

The Department of Urdu was established in 1938-39 and is one of the Major languages Department of the Govt. Vidarbha Institute of Science & Humanities, Amravati. At that time Ghulam Mustafa Khan became the head of Urdu department. He taught Urdu language and also worked hard for the promotion of Urdu language and published many books. Worked hard for publication.At that time, after all was well, the partition of India took place and Ghulam Mustafa Khan left for Pakistan world renowned figure Dr Manzoor Husain Shor taught for a short period and migrated to Pakistan Karachi as he was appointed as Professor in Urdu at Karachi university. Dr Syed Naimuddin held the charge of Head of Department he went to Turkey for research purpose after that became Principal of this institute.one of his book was published by Turkish government. Aaqa Haider Hasan Abidi work as HOD of the department. Professor shaikh,Abdul Rab Irfan Dawood Kashmiri, Dr Mohammad Samiullah worked in the Department.

M A in Urdu was started in 1964 but was closed in 1968-69, later it was restarted in 2000-2001. Since its inception the Department has played an important role in establishing relevant specialization such as inter-disciplinary courses like Arabic, Persian and Marathi etc. Use of ICT Tools to improve teaching-learning process–LCD Projector, LECTURE METHOD, GROUP DISCUSSION, SEMINAR.

Mission and Vision

To make Students acquainted with literary forms like Drama, Novel, Poetry, Essay etc. To develop reading, writing and communication skills of the students by introducing Urdu Language skills. To implant research methodological approach among the students and to familiarize the students with the dimensions and methods of research.
